.Best Place to Cook Your Own Food

Koryo Ja Jang

There’s plenty of great Korean food at this hidden treasure: $5 noodle
dishes, giant jampong soup, fried dumplings, and more. But the
special thing about Koryo that not many restaurant-goers know about is
the personal grill that comes with the traditional gogi gui. For
the barbecue lover in all of us, you’ll get a Benihana-type hot plate
with a metal grill above it. The dish is strips of raw beef, pork, and
chicken that you can drape over the grill and wait for the satisfaction
of the perfection in your cooking. An order of gogi comes with
an assortment of dipping sauces and a plate of lettuce used to make
your meat into finger-licking wraps. Order the green-onion salad,
called Pajori, to accompany your dish and add flavor and color.
A meal comes out to about $7 a person — not bad for a very
filling dinner or lunch. Plus, you end up feeling like you’ve actually
done something productive.
