.Best Pet Food Store

Animal Farm

A good pet-food store is all in the details, and for one thing, Animal Farm has better-quality rabbit food than we’ve been able to find anywhere else. For that matter, it also sells medical-grade rat food by the pound. It’s easy to find where the big bags of Care-Fresh recycled paper litter are stocked; a bang-up wild-bird store is right next door; the staffers are cute and friendly; and the place has that cluttered, mom-and-pop vibe that makes you feel okay about dropping a C-note on your pets. The inventory’s one major weakness is hay, so to keep your bunnies in roughage, you’re best off going to the source — the parking lot next to Golden Gate Fields is full of hay vendors on most days. They’ll think you’re out of your mind, but be polite, and eventually someone will sell you a single bale. (Just don’t go on a rainy day, because they won’t take the tarp off their stash just to sell one lousy bale.)
