This office supplier turns ordinary office accoutrements such as Scotch tape and copy paper into a way to support your community by donating more than half of its aftertax profits to local nonprofits. Customers of the business product supplier — who order through its catalogue service — are invited to nominate, then vote on, which local organizations will receive each year’s funds. In the past, Bay Area recipients have included food banks, youth sports programs, and organizations that oppose domestic violence. The goal of Give Something Back is to beat cookie-and-salad-dressing purveyor Newman’s Own — the model for this type of charitable giving — by donating $100 million within the next decade. Its current tally is $3 million and climbing, one box of staples at a time.
