.Best New Slang Word

Lightweight

The slang lexicon includes as many words for marijuana and alcohol as
the Inuit have for snow, so a new slang word with no ties to mind
alteration is a particularly valuable acquisition. And “lightweight” is
ever so useful. It roughly translates to “somewhat” as an adjective or
“moderately” as an adverb; charmingly, it can be used as an adverb
without any fussy addition of “ly.” For example, if you heard something
new on the radio that was alright but not spectacular you might say,
“Yeah, I heard that shit. It lightweight slaps.” A fine use of the word
comes in the title of a newly sprouted local blog, Lightweight Racist
(LightweightRacist.blogspot.com).
The site chronicles instances of discernible but not screaming racism,
like a Bruce Lee T-shirt with “Bwuce Wee” printed on it. Don’t be
fooled by how boring the word “lightweight” seems. Its pedestrian
quality only means the slanguist can get ever so much more use out of
it. No waiting for special occasions or a rap career to break this word
out. Use it anytime, and make a mundane conversation lightweight cool.
And that thing about the Inuit? Lightweight racist.
