33 Revolutions Record Shop & Cafe

This all-day eclectic neighborhood joint has a retro feel that sits comfortably with that of the El Cerrito Speakeasy three doors away. The cafe-cum-vinyl-record emporium and hat, magazine, and healthy edibles store is a longtime dream come true for partners Dave Chavez, a former Whole Foods tea and supplements buyer, and Dave Kloski, who also worked for a while at Whole Foods and before that, in the music business. Kloski, who regularly picks up and plays acoustic guitar, waking up the laptop addicts partaking of caffeine and free Wi-Fi, started collecting jazz and soul LPs when he was a teenager. Now you can buy them from him, and he will buy from you. Chavez and Kloski know about quality. They therefore brew and sell new-favorite Ritual coffee out of San Francisco, Numi tea out of Oakland, and the classic DoMatcha green tea, a symbol of traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Hat wearers themselves, Chavez and Kloski sell a line of Levity eco-friendly headgear for men in styles that have gone full-circle from modern to passé to cutting-edge. Watch their web site for their upcoming live music schedule. The beer and wine license is pending.
