Move over, Gourmet Ghetto and Temescal — stop hogging all the PR.
There’s a new kid in town, and it’s Glenview. This sleepy little
neighborhood at the foot of the Oakland Hills near Piedmont and Crocker
Highlands is the East Bay’s au courant foodie destination, thanks
primarily to Bellanico and Marzano. Charming Park Boulevard, with its
quaint commercial section and neat houses, has generated quite some
buzz with these two new Italian trattorias. Foodies from afar are
flocking to Bellanico, which traces its roots to SF’s Aperto, for its
unsurpassed cicchetti, antipasti, and primi dishes.
Meanwhile, Marzano, with a decidedly southern Italian bent and stellar
pizza combos, comes from the folks behind Garibaldi’s and has a real
fan base, too. Throw into the mix another much-anticipated newcomer
— a pan-Latin spinoff of the popular À Côté
— plus the down-home deliciousness of the ensconced Blackberry
Bistro as well as the handful other newish and established
neighborhood-vibe restaurants for just enough critical mass to give
Berkeley’s famed district a run for its money.
