.Best Martial Arts Studio: No hand-holding here

UC Martial Arts Program

The Cal program may not be the most intimate setting for martial arts; with more than five hundred active members and beginning students, you won’t find the sort of hands-on training you can at smaller dojos. But if you want to surround yourself with the greatest talents on the West Coast, you’ll find most of them at the university’s Recreational Sports Facility. Ken Min founded the program back in 1969, establishing one of the first American beachheads for this Korean striking style. Since then, his students have dominated the college circuit, winning the National Collegiate Tae Kwon Do Association tournament a staggering 24 times in the last 29 years. Min’s students have even made it onto the American Olympic team. Again, you won’t find people to hold your hand here, or even pay that much attention to you. But if you want to challenge yourself by training alongside the best, this is the place to sign up.
