.Best Local BrewBeer to please a beer snob

Drake's Brewing Co.

Everyone is a beer snob nowadays. In fact, in the East Bay it’s gotten to the point that ordering a Bud is almost as shameful as renting a porno in a video store. Still, one microbrew stands out on the crowded beer palette: Drake’s of San Leandro. The stuff is hard to find. Drake’s brewmasters cook up just three thousand barrels a year in their space behind the San Leandro Wal-Mart. That means you can find the brewery’s tasty IPA, Hefeweizen, Blonde, or Amber ales only at select outlets. You can buy six-packs of the aforementioned at BevMo for $7.49. Cato’s and Ben & Nick’s also carry Drake’s on tap from time to time, and, as of press time, Ben & Nick’s had the sharp-tasting double IPA on tap. For the truly inspired, Drake’s offers tasting tours at its facility every Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
