.Best Hipster Hangout: Dude with pink hair wants to buy you a latte

Mama Buzz Cafe and Gallery

Searching the stars is cool, alright, but you’re even cooler. There are lots of people like you — hipsters, that is — in the East Bay. Ergo, there are lots of places for them to hang out. But when it comes to getting them all together during daylight hours, no place competes with Mama Buzz. With its small, simple menu and even smaller staff, it’s not necessarily the spot for gourmet grazing. But if it’s between the hours of seven and seven (nine to five on weekends), and you’re needing some good talk and stuff to look at; a trading post to pick up and drop off your unwanted books, baubles, and Boggle; and a feel for what’s real, DIY, and close to the street, then head to Nicole and Jen’s hoppin’ little spot. Special events such as crafting sessions and clothing swaps are always homey. The acoustic music on Sunday is the perfect antidote to Saturday night’s excess. And the evening activities — live music, art openings, and more — are just as casually cool.
