.Best Heart-Stopper: Downright decadent

Mud Pie at Ed's Mudville Grill

“Downtown” Clayton is like a scene out of the Old West — quaint wooden houses with white picket fences, a saloon, and plenty of free parking. To that extent, the family-oriented sports bar Ed’s Mudville Grill — one of two nighttime eateries in Clayton — offers the town’s eleven thousand residents some of the most exciting entertainment, and its mud pie dessert is at the top of the list. Served on an eight-inch platter, it’s a massive 48 cubic inches of chocolate ice cream, mocha ice cream, crumbled Oreos, and whipped cream, all drizzled in chocolate syrup. It’s a pretty standard recipe and the ingredients may not be the most top-notch, but the decadence of this dessert lies in the crunchy chocolate crust whose texture perfectly complements the layers of ice cream, and somehow stays crisp. For $5.89, you might as well skip dinner and head straight for dessert.
