Is it that young love is in the air? What else could make eating crab at the Mosquito Lounge in Brentwood feel so sensual? It’s the only place in East Contra Costa that gets in big, fresh, live Dungeness crabs daily. The crabs live in a tank in the kitchen until chef Tony Tao flash-fries one, wok-tosses it in garlic butter, and sets it on the serving counter, a process that, granted, is sensual for the diner only, not the crab. There’s also the pepper crab with chile spice, and the watercress crab simmered in ginger-infused coconut broth. As for the young love — owners Mimi (Tony Tao’s daughter) and Larry Alfonso met at a wedding. On their second date, they came up with a vision for the restaurant, and its name. Six months later, Larry proposed. Three years later, they opened their Asian-inspired eatery.
