Linden Street Brewery

Barbecue and brew — there’s nothing much better on a lazy Friday afternoon, and the talented duo behind Linden Street Brewery, Adam Lamoreaux and Cary Peterson, share both for free every Friday starting at 4:30 p.m. Their informal open house for friends, also known as the Steam Blow Off, started in August 2007 and has become the brewery’s de facto marketing plan, a kid-friendly, pet-friendly, community-building effort. It allows the thirsty and hungry to sample Gold Rush–era California lager such as copper-colored Common Lager and meaty snacks fresh off the barbie at the LSB Garage Beer Lounge. This cool brewery, which uses Bison Brewery’s old equipment, is smack-dab in the middle of industrial port territory, so trains, cranes, and warehouses dot the landscape, as do the fleet of bicycles of the many thirstysomethings (and then somes) who have become regulars. Beer lovers who miss Friday’s coming-out parties can quaff LSB products at two local establishments, the Trappist in Old Oakland and the Fireside Lounge in Alameda.
