West Wind Solano 2 Drive-In Theater

Ah, memories of childhood and glorious summer nights when the family crammed into the station wagon and tooled off to the local drive-in theater for cheap wholesome entertainment. And the salad days of youth, when underage teens hid out in the trunk with the cooler full of beer until the coast was clear. Fuzzy speakers, blocked views, bad movies. Those days are here again — but better. Car-culture crazy Californians who long for those drive-in days are in for a nostalgic treat when they make the trek to the West Wind Solano 2. Palms outlined in white lights mark the entrance, and the expansive parking lot is a sea of peaks and valleys so everybody gets an unimpeded view. Gone are the bulky sound boxes; instead, tune in your radio, cuddle up with the date, and settle in for a double feature of first-run movies. Two screens, a spiffy concession stand with affordable hotdogs, hamburgers, candy, and Cokes, and a playground jammed with tykes looking for a new best friend add to the experience of those bygone carefree days. Kids eleven and younger are free.
