With copper pots and pans hanging from the ceiling and fresh cakes coming out of the oven, Crixa feels like a Hungarian grandmother’s kitchen. From elegant indulgences like tiramisu to homier treats like blueberry pie, everything from this Eastern European-influenced bakery is lovingly crafted and worth breaking your diet for. Many of its offerings are traditional Czech and Hungarian desserts that you can’t find in any other local bakery, like kifli (pastries stuffed with fruit) and Budapest coffee cake. The Cherub Pie, an unforgettable blend of sour cherries and rhubarb enveloped by a buttery crust, is one of the menu’s highlights, and the Soprano Tiramisu (the classic Italian delicacy with a layer of dark chocolate mousse) is heaven for a chocoholic. If for no other reason than to say the name, order a cup of coffee and Fatima’s Thigh, a crumbly, powdered-sugar-covered roll stuffed with rosewater-soaked almonds and currants. In your caffeine- and sugar-induced daze, you’ll find yourself hopelessly hooked.
