.Best Chinese Stationery Store: Stocking stuffers for anyone young

Kingstone Bookstore

Do you have children in your life who like Hello Kitty, or a significant other who owns My Neighbor Totoro on video? Head to the Pacific East Mall, where this Chinese-language bookstore stocks Sanrio-type goodies. Past the books, music, and DVDs that cater to mostly Asian shoppers you’ll find racks of notebooks, pencil cases, keychains, coin purses, address books, small stuffed animals, and stickers featuring characters like Ku Ku Ma Lu (a mouse), Doraemon (a robotic cat from the 22nd century) and Pig Pig (“Welcome to Pig Pig family. Let’s have a funky party”). Hello Kitty is here too, of course, as well as Snoopy, Betty Boop, and Afro Ken (the cartoon dog with a rainbow Afro), but the ones you’ve never heard of are more fun. The selection changes constantly and half the charm is in the strange English phrases printed on some items, like an airplane neck pillow with the message “Tomorrow is waiting for your smile.” What person on your shopping list wouldn’t love a card that says “100% Friend Juice!” or a new wallet with a character that seems to be a talking orange?
