Craig Horton Band

Craig Horton is a deeply soulful bluesman whose down-home drawl, incisive guitar attack, and haunting lyrics match the intensity of his wide-eyed stare. He was a rising star on the Chicago blues scene during the early ’60s, working with harmonica god Little Walter, among others, before he relocated to Oakland in 1966, landed an assembly-line gig at General Motors in Fremont, and dropped off the musical radar screen. In My Spirit, the first of the his two CDs for the SoCal-based Bad Daddy label, put the Arkansas-born musician back on the blues map in a big way in 2001. He’s been doing clubs and festivals throughout the US and Europe ever since, surrounded by A-list Bay Area blues players. His current crop includes Steve Gannon, rhythm guitarist of choice for such singers as Jimmy McCracklin, Sugar Pie DeSanto, and Sonny Rhodes since moving to Oakland from London in 1982, and bassist Ted Wysinger, whose extensive recording credits include the 1970 Rodger Collins classic “Foxy Girls in Oakland.”
