The ever-expanding chain of strip malls that line Cedar Boulevard, just off Mowry behind the NewPark Mall, just keeps getting better. A family of four could eat themselves silly for a week without exhausting the delights to be found here. We certainly haven’t come close, but we’ve already discovered some of our favorite restaurants here. There’s Woodlands, the East Bay’s most amazing South Indian restaurant, just a stone’s throw from Udupi Palace, whose dosas and vegetarian thali meals rival it. There’s Red Kwali, whose pungent Malaysian food is the stuff of daydreams, and Ninji Mala Hot Pot, where we go to burn out our sinuses slurping seafood, tripe, and vegetables coated in Sichuan peppercorns and chiles. Chaozhou noodles, Taiwanese desserts, Korean tofu stews — all here. Once you eat your way through all the restaurants, you can start your grocery shopping at the strip’s numerous markets.
