.9:00 a.m. Saturday: Best Slippin’ and Slidin’

Dublin Iceland

For the slightly more adventurous, there’s ice skating, and this shiny-smooth ice rink is resurfaced every few hours, making it a great place to spend a weekend morning. The rink is just a bit smaller than NHL specs call for, but plenty big enough to get some good speed going or practice your new moves. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for skate rental. Iceland also offers classes for skaters of all ages and experience, taught by a professional coaching staff. During the hot summer days, Iceland (which also runs Berkeley Iceland and Belmont Iceland) has week-long skating camps for kids five through twelve. The rink hosts birthday parties and can also be rented out for private bashes. Tuesday night is family night here, and the $5 admission includes skate rental. Although Iceland has no concession stands, the rink has vending machines that sell all varieties of junk food to hungry skaters. It’s a little taste of the Midwest smack-dab in the middle of Contra Costa County.
