.8:43 p.m. Wednesday: Best Low-Ceiling Bar with a Shuffleboard Table

Kingfish Cafe and Pub

Manute Bol, the former Golden States Warrior center who stood at 7’7″, wouldn’t fit into Oakland’s Kingfish Pub unless he crawled on his knees. The Sudanese player would be a bit too short for this low-ceiling bar. From the outside, the place looks like an off-road Southern juke joint. On the inside, the dark tavern’s walls are layered in sports tickets from Raiders and A’s games played circa the days of Kenny “the Snake” Stabler and Sal “Battin’ 1000” Bando. Certainly, this is a good spot to stop by for a cold Bud and a score-check on the way home from work. But on other nights, the well-salted shuffleboard in the back room is enough to turn a pit stop into a full-fledged docking. By the looks of it, the alley-shaped room that abuts the main bar was built specifically to house said shuffleboard, giving the table the showcasing it deserves. Patrons of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to play.
