.4:00 a.m. Any Day: Best Place to Get a 7-10 Split at Four in the Morning

Holiday Bowl

If your game of pool is off, you can always head out to Hayward to bowl a few frames instead. The parking lot outside Holiday Bowl is roughly the size of the Atlantic Ocean, and for good reason: After midnight, it becomes the most hoppin’ joint in all of Alameda County. The forty-lane alley has been open 24/7 since it was founded in 1958, and knocking the pins down is easily the most fun you can legally have at four in the morning while wearing borrowed shoes. Fridays and Saturdays the coffee shop also stays open all night, serving up stick-to-your-spleen bowling alley fare like fried-egg sandwiches, corned-beef hash, and chili dogs. Better yet, there’s karaoke in the cocktail lounge on Saturdays and live bands on Friday nights. Check out the Web site for a schedule of upcoming bands. Bowling costs $2.75 per game per person from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., $3.75 the rest of the time. Shoe rental is another $2.50. Holiday Bowl regularly provides discounts for league members, and hosts frequent discount bowling times for youth, seniors, and college students.
