.3:14 p.m. Saturday, After Spring Cleaning: Best Place to Take Your Old Electronics

Alameda County Computer Resource Center

Not only does this nonprofit recycle “anything you plug in but don’t put food inside of,” it rebuilds whatever works and gives it away for free. Schools, charities, nonprofits, even Third World nations have received ten thousand free computers from these folks over the past nine years. Stationed just off of I-80 on the cusp of Berkeley, the ACCRC’s oddly shaped complex foreshadows the oddly mannered people inside. These people love their work, and have no small modicum of freak pride. And they always need volunteers to help install Linux, rebuild computers, break things, sort stuff, and untangle cables. It’s the perfect place to take all your old electric-powered junk after spring cleaning. Nothing’s too old or weird. And you’ll even get a tax write-off.
