Sway

Sorry guys, this one’s for the ladies. Open for just a few months, Sway is already making a mark on the East Bay fashion map with the latest trends in young women’s clothing with price tags that are thankfully soothing to the eyes. True, you can find a few of the brands, and even some identical pieces, at a couple nearby Berkeley boutiques, but Sway has got the all-around cutest collection of clothes, a thoughtfully laid-out retail space, and the most energetic tunes on the speaker. Tops are priced at $16 and up, with most in the twenty-something dollar range. There are button-ups you can wear to work, slinky things, clingy shirts accented with ruching, and some ’80s-style threads. Retro ’50s-style dresses go for as little as $30. In the window recently were spaghetti-strap dresses dotted with cherries or polka dots. Oh, and the accessories! Delicious lip gloss. Clever handbags that look like little boom boxes. Visit later in the afternoon rather than earlier and parking is more plentiful. Sway keeps the selection fresh with frequent shipments of new goods so you’re always bound to find something you can’t live without. Why spend a lot of money to look as if you didn’t spend a lot of money when you can plan the casually unplanned look for far less?
