DAIMO

Shrimp and pork wonton soup for breakfast. Shrimp and pork wonton soup for afternoon snack. Shrimp and pork wonton soup in the wee hours of the morning. DAIMO just doesn’t quit. The restaurant is packed at all hours — during the day with shoppers from nearby 99 Ranch, and late at night with half-drunk restaurant folk trying to puzzle out why the name is spelled all in capitals. The challenge here is trying to make it through the two epic-length menus, which span the range of Cantonese food from low to high. The restaurant chain is famous in Hong Kong and Vancouver for noodles and wontons, but DAIMO’s tank-to-steamer seafood and roast meats — which they chop up just for you in the open kitchen — are also worth every penny of a splurge.
