This edition of the Best of the East Bay Party band spotlight series features a true pedigree of the blues scene. The daughter of one of the most iconic blues performers ever (her dad John Lee Hooker), Zakiya Hooker has carved out her own space in the blues and has been quite successful with it. She is completely engaging, and brings that charm to the stage. Follow the jump for her official story; definitely one of the artists t I am most excited to see and hear at this year's party.

Zakiya Hooker is quite familiar with the blues. You could even say she had a front-row seat to view the best the genre had to offer, right in her own living room. Her dad was the renowned blues giant John Lee Hooker. But rather than relying on her father, Zakiya has pursued life - and music - on her own terms. A strong and versatile vocalist, Zakiya has carved out a market for herself, beginning with the jazzy blues sound on her debut album Another Generation of the Blues.

Zakiya has recently released her fourth album Keeping It Real, which showcases the artists sass and soul. Her live performances are not to be missed, as she creates a relationship with every audience, full of humor and deep emotion. She is her father's living legacy, proudly carrying his blues torch into the new millenium.
