Well, here’s something heartwarming: Oakland’s own Warthogs Rugby — a club serving primarily underprivileged kids from some of the city’s tougher neighborhoods, which we wrote about a couple months back — just beat out crosstown rivals Bishop O’Dowd 38-22 to take the silver division title in high school rugby for Northern California. Plus, according to a letter from team president Ryan Burke and posted on the Wharthogs blog, after the game, three players were approached by Cal rugby team manager about going to Cal. Says Burke: “We were unbelievably proud to see these disadvantaged kids be acknowledged this way.” If you’re not feeling at least a little bit warm and fuzzy right now, you are a clearly a robot.
