Russo's Alameda Competition Revealed

The two other finalists for Alameda's city manager position are former Alameda assistant city attorney David Brandt and Millbrae City Manager Marcia Raines, the Island reports, citing an anonymous source. Brandt and Raines are competing againt Oakland City Attorney John Russo.

Brandt has the advantage of having experience inside Alameda City Hall, and both he and Raines have city manager's experience. Brandt is the city manager of Redmond, Oregon. Russo, however, is said to be friends with Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore and City Councilwoman Lena Tam. In addition, he donated heavily to their campaigns last year, as well as to Alameda Vice Mayor Rob Bonta — as the Express first reported.

Correction: An earlier version of this post erroneously stated that Raines was the only candidate with city manager's experience.
