Backers of a statewide marijuana legalization measure say they already have gathered enough signatures to qualify for the November 2010 ballot, the Chron reports. The measure’s chief supporter, Richard Lee of Oakland, said they have collected more than 680,000 signatures in just two months — half the time they’re allotted under state law. The measure would make it legal to possess up to an ounce of pot and would allow local governments to tax marijuana proceeds. According to some estimates, taxing pot could generate $1.4 billion in annual revenue.
