Doing her part for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mimi Young -- the pastry chef/owner of local online bakery Mi2Sweets -- will offer special pink treats throughout October, donating 10 percent of the proceeds from these treats to Zero Breast Cancer, a San Rafael-based nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer through community participation in the research process.

Young's October treats include "Pink Sno Balls" (devil's-food cake with vanilla buttercream filling, marshmallow créme, and pink coconut), and "Pink Dress Cookies" (decorated sugar cookies).

Formerly of San Francisco's Grand Cafe, Scala's Bistro, and Palio d' Asti, Young explains in the email I've just received: "My desserts are designed to bring people comfort and support. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the efforts supporting Breast Cancer Awareness and finding a cure, but by making desserts dedicated to feeding people's souls."
