.Time for a Gay-Marriage Initiative?

Californians now support gay-marriage by five percentage points, as state residents’ acceptance of the same-sex nuptials continues to grow, according to a new Field Poll. The Chron reports that the poll shows state residents approve of gay marriage 49 percent to 44 percent, a turnaround from last November’s election when voters approved Prop. 8 and banned same-sex nuptials 52 percent to 48 percent. The Field Poll shows that voters may be ready to approve a gay-marriage initiative in 2010. The only question is whether supporters will prefer to put it on the ballot in 2012, when liberal and progressive voters will be out in force again to reelect Barack Obama.
