.Cal State Hits Students With Another Fee Hike

The California State University Board of Trustees has voted to raise student fees by 10 percent, according to the Chron and the Contra Costa Times. The board’s move comes a week after the UC regents voted to raise fees in the state’s other public university system by 9.3 percent. While it’s true that higher education has been hit hard by the recession, the state’s educational leaders have repeatedly chosen to balance their budgets on the backs of students. Student fees in the Cal State system have now more than doubled since the mid 1990s, far outpacing the rate of inflation, going from $1,584 in 1996-97 to $3,354 starting this fall.
