Latest UC Compensation Scandal Deepens

The story initially broke on Thanksgiving, so you'll forgive us if we didn't glance at it. But it's damn explosive: as outrage mounts over UC's practice of giving employees hefty buyouts and then rehiring them in other positions, the Chron reports that former UC President Robert Dynes hired his pal and employee Linda Williams to be an associate chancellor at UC Berkeley, even though the position was never advertised, and no one else had a chance to apply for the job. Not only did Williams get the job, but she got more than $100,000 in severance to leave her gig at the Oakland UC office and bop up to Berkeley. Current President Mark Yudof has killed the practice of giving people severance and rehiring them in new positions, even as he claims the practice actually reduces costs to the system.
