Slap Hitter: The End of an Error

Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 9:29 PM

The A's are finished and the Raiders are out of the race in September. ESPN reports the Silver and Black will finish their rotten season without their head coach. Lane Kiffin and his pride and poison boys would be world beaters if a game lasted three quarters, but that last one seems to be a doozy. The Raider nation will not long mourn a coach who dared spit in the eye of Emperor Al, but the choice between a quisling and a nonentity isn't likely to end the blackouts that will last through the winter. We'll have a long bye week to learn about the new skipper, but it will be Palin-like for sure. A nice first bounce followed by months of dissolutionment and buyer's remorse. Gotta admit they've got to do something, but then McCain probably had to pick a veep as well. The Kiffin era will barely outlast the '08 Athletics. Never thought we'd be counting the days til Warriors season.— Kibby Kleiman
