According to the Daily Californian, a California appellate court has ruled that illegal immigrants can’t pay the less expensive in-state tuition if they want to go to college. Although the state legislature passed a law allowing illegal immigrants access to the cheaper tuition, the court ruled that the law conflicted with a federal statute, which declares that no illegal immigrant can get a break on education unless all Americans are eligible for the same discount. Now, illegal immigrants will have to pay about $17,000 more for the same state college education. Which sucks for them, we’re sure. But why exactly is California offering public higher education to illegal immigrants? We’re confused.
