.In Which We Quibble With Chip Johnson Some More

We can’t really argue with the underlying premise of Chip Johnson’s latest column: namely, that Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums doesn’t have the skill, temperament, or competence to run this city, and should redouble his efforts to find a city administrator who can. But in pondering Johnson’s demand that Dellums hire Robert Bobb to atone for the disgraceful way he let Deborah Edgerly run amok in City Hall, we can’t help muttering, “Dammit, Jerry Brown fired Bobb and put Edgerly in there in the first place. When’s he gonna get a little dirt on him?” We know, we know. Ancient history and all that, we’re talking about the future, yadda yadda. But really, the very man who’s riding into town to save us is the guy who’s termination paved the way for Edgerly to do her business. And Jerry Brown, the man who laid the groundwork for this disaster, is sitting up in his San Pablo Avenue loft, plotting a campaign to be governor again. Doesn’t anyone else find this infuriating?
