.California Hotel Tenants Can Stay for Now

Both the city of Oakland and the nonprofit Oakland Community Housing have long wanted to boot the last remaining tenants from the low-income housing facility California Hotel. Could Oakland Community Housing really not pay the bills? Was the city just looking for a place to put a homeless shelter? Whatever the true story is, they’ll both have to wait, as an Alameda County judge has ruled that the tenants can stay in the hotel, perhaps indefinitely. According to the Oakland Tribune, judge Richard Keller has urged the landlords to come up with a long-term solution that preserves the right of tenants to live in the building. Roughly seventy people still remain in the hotel.
