Slap Hitter: A's Trade Another Starter

Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 5:43 PM

Priced to go! It's Joe Blanton on the long ride to Philadelphia. Just moments ago, the A's sent their opening day starter away for yet another handful of magic beanes. Designed as usual to become frutiful big leaguers/trade bait in 2011. A's fans have been waiting for the other boot to drop, and now it's just a matter of time before we start dealing off pieces of our bullpen. Too bad we couldn't have traded Huston Street before the 9th inning on Sunday. The new guys? You'd need a program from the Carolina League to know. Next thing for the A's to get fired up about? Bringing up a kid from Triple A who isn't ready yet (see Carlos Gonzalez) and who will perform, but would really have benefited from a bit more seasoning. All this and the trading deadline still has two weeks to go.— Kibby Kleiman
