.Sea Scouts Leader Takes Deal for Child Molestation

In a bizarre end to a truly bizarre tale, Berkeley Sea Scouts leader Eugene Evans has agreed to a deal in which he will serve six years in prison for child molestation, the Trib reports. Evans was at the center of the national and local debate on the Boy Scouts’ anti-gay policies. He sued the Scouts to end the policy all the way to the Supreme Court. When the Berkeley City Council revoked the Sea Scouts’ free berthing rights at the marina, he sued it to keep the boat docked there for free. But it turned out that he was molesting children under his charge on the boat, a charge he agreed to accept when he pled no contest. We’re just glad this one has finally gone away.
