Author to Read at Cody's Despite Store's Closure

Mon, Jun 30, 2008 at 1:30 PM

Bob Calhoun, aka Count Dante (author of the self-described "punk/wrestling tell-all" Beer, Blood, and Cornmeal), will still present his scheduled booksigning at Cody's tonight, even though the store has been closed since June 20.

On that Friday, as Calhoun tells the Express, he received an email from Cody's events coordinator explaining that his event, and all others, "were cancelled and that the store was abruptly shutting its doors.

"The demise of Cody's, along with changes at other Berkeley Bookstores," Calhoun explains, left him "without an East Bay book tour event. Being a rock-and-roll front man and former Incredibly Strange Wrestler," Calhoun calls himself "no stranger to the theatrical." Thus, "the show must go on."

Calhoun will be reading on the sidewalk in front of Cody's Books (2201 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley) tonight (June 30) at 7 pm.—Anneli Rufus
