The Chauncey Bailey Project and the Center for Investigative Reporting have enhanced a video police secretly taped of Your Black Muslim Bakery leader Yusuf Bey IV laughing and boasting about the murder of journalist Chauncey Bailey. As Bey IV sat in a San Leandro Police Department interrogation room, he talked with his brother Joshua Bey and associate Tamon Halfin about the murder. “Pow! Pow! Poof!” he laughed when describing how the shotgun shells destroyed Bailey’s body and head. In addition, Bey described how he stored the “shotty,” or shotgun used to kill Bailey, in his bedroom closet just hours after the the murder. Finally, Bey claimed that Oakland police detective Derwin Longmire, who was handling the Bailey investigation and has been a longtime friend of the bakery, would help them beat the rap.
