.Air Quality District Starts Fining Carbon Dioxide Emitters

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has decided to fine businesses that churn out excessive amounts of carbon dioxide. Although the fine structure is prorated by the size of the company, the formula roughly works out to four cents per metric ton. The new fee structure, which is the first of its kind in the nation, will generate $1.1 million a year to study and track global warming and greenhouse gases.
