Port Showdown Between Cops, Striking Truckers

While hysterical parents and school officials raced around an East Oakland school yesterday, a mob of 80 striking truckers got into it with the cops in West Oakland. The truckers, who shut down large parts of the Port of Oakland with a picket line, claim that the major carrier companies have failed to reimburse them for gas, as required in their contract. The picket line was nice and quiet on Monday, but scuffles broke out yesterday, presumably between strikers and scabs trying to cross the line. After the crowd smashed up the window of one of the scabby rigs, the cops moved in and dispersed the police, according to the Oakland Tribune. Hey, yesterday was fun! Immigration raid rumors, scab battles, Oakland was one big amusement park!
