Berkeley and San Francisco War Protests Muted

Yesterday's anti-war demos were smaller than one might expect; maybe anniversaries are overrated. Around 500 people marched around San Francisco's Financial District, disrupting some car and Muni traffic. Pentagon Papers leaker Daniel Ellsberg and about 149 other people got busted for conducting a die-in and sitting down in the street in front of Senator Dianne Feinstein's office, the Chron reports. The biggest event was a City Hall rally that drew several thousand people, including state Senator Carol Migden. (Hope she didn't expense the trip to her campaign committee!)

Over in B-Town, about forty Berkeley High students rallied in Civic Center Park before marching over to the Marine recruiting office on Shattuck Avenue. Omnipresent grieving mother Cindy Sheehan addressed the kids; according to the Oakland Tribune, Sheehan implored the students, "Flip burgers, do not join the military!" Thank God the youth of today still have choices.
