Some companies may have decided that the in thing this year is to roll over and die. But not Microsoft, where officials announced yesterday that they intend to partner with Intel and UC Berkeley and establish a new research center that could change the face of computers. Back in January, Cal offiicals created a new “parallel computing” lab to research programming for computers that will have 16, 32, or possibly dozens more processors operating simultaneously; currently, the most amibitous comuter models have just four computer models. Microsoft and Intel officials will hold a press conference at ten this morning to discuss their plans in more detail.
