Lafayette’s Acalanes high school district will layoff the equivalent of 27 teachers and support employees to cope with a $2.5 million budget shortfall, the Contra Costa Times reported. With other forms of attrition, the district actually is shedding the equivalent of 38 full-time positions. Like other East Bay school districts, Acalanes is grappling with the impact of Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposal to cut $4.5 billion from statewide education funding. Similar cuts are coming soon to a district near you.
