.John Yoo Says People Were Mean to Him

Looks like John Yoo, the Boalt law professor who provided a legal framework for the Bush administration to justify torturing suspected terrorists (and anyone unlucky enough to be on the business end of an Afghan bounty), is finally feeling the heat for his creative jurisprudence. In an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair, Yoo complains that his administration higher-ups have quietly let him bear full responsibility for articulating their repugnant interrogation policies. (Hat tip: New Republic.) “I kind of feel like I have been hung out to dry,” Yoo says. “People say that I am responsible for everything, as if I had the full point plan for what we are going to do. In fact, I was fairly low down on the organizational chart. [Those above me] have basically decided they are not going to talk about this anymore. It is as if, if all the flak falls on this guy, well, fine. I don’t like it, but unlike them I think it is my responsibility to explain what we did and why.” Getting caught up in forces beyond your control, and paying a terrible price? We hope you don’t, uh, lose any sleep over it, John.
