Oakland Schools Welcome Lice with Open Arms

Children in Oakland's public schools who contract lice are in luck � or out of luck, depending on whether they like school. New regulations in the district permit kids infested with the tiny bloodsuckers to continue attending class. The norm locally and across the country has been for districts to give itchy-headed students the boot the moment the "L" word is uttered, the Chron reports. About 1 percent of North American kids K-4 suffer from pediculus humanus capitis at any given time, Richard Pollack of the Harvard School of Publich Health told the paper.
