Ain't That a Kick in the Head?

Remember the San Jose Earthquakes? Hint: Good team, few fans went, departed for Houston, now called Dynamo, now playing for the league championship in Sunday's 2006 MLS Cup? Lew Wolff remembers. And now the canny Oakland A's managing partner is officially opening the office of his newly franchised Earthquakes, version 2.0, on a mission to bring big-time futbol back to the Bay. The ball gets put into play Wednesday at the team's press conference (4:30 p.m.) at San Jose's Fairmont Hotel, home of the Earthquakes' new office. Curious coincidence - this is the same week the A's are widely expected to announce their eventual move to Wolff and partners' baseball-only site in Fremont. How will the Quakes spend the three years granted by Major League Soccer to develop a soccer-specific stadium and purchase an MLS team? Which team will Wolff buy? Pray it's not Salt Lake, a Real pain in the butt. And could that stadium be in ... Fremont? Let's kick that one around a little.
