Filmmaker JoAnn Schuch to Screen and Discuss Pot Regulation Documentary

With such a vast imbalance between state and federal marijuana laws, filmmaker JoAnn Schuch decided to take the issue head-on in her new documentary, Tricky Bidness.

The film explores the state legality of medical marijuana in contrast to the illegal grow houses set up in the Humboldt County's town of Arcata. Known as the American homeland of marijuana production, Humboldt County is a perfect microcosm for every decriminalized state's struggle to maintain its laws in opposition to the federal stance against legalization.

Government Shutdown Will Not Affect the War on Pot

The government may be shut down but the crackdown on medical marijuana in California will roll on.

The sweeping shutdown does not include about 87 percent of the staff at the Drug Enforcement Administration, reports Reason.com, which has a copy of the Justice Department's contingency plan.

That is because "DEA investigations need to continue uninterrupted so that cases are not compromised and the health and safety of the American public is not placed at risk," Justice states.

The Economist Debate: Should Cannabis Be Legalized Everywhere?

Pop on over to The Economist to vote on whether or not cannabis should be taxed and regulated worldwide. After two days of voting, the yes contingent was winning this morning 94-6 percent.

Supporting the drug war, Neil McKeganey of the Center for Drug Misuse Research, who says, 'Yes, drug war, because marijuana makes people crazy.'
