.Local School Named One of Nation’s Best in Music Education

If you want your kid to get a decent music education, you might want to move to Lafayette. That city’s Acalanes High School was recently named one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation. The program is one of 174 districts in the country to receive the recognition, which was determined by a web-based survey on topics such as funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program. The survey was developed and administered by The Institute for Educational Research and Public Service, an affiliate of the University of Kansas, and responses were verified with district officials, while advisory organizations reviewed the data, according to the press release. (It’s unclear how many total districts completed the survey, however, since participation was voluntary.)

Acalanes was one of seven California schools that received the distinction; other Bay Area schools include Woodside School and Milpitas High School. New York had the most amount of winners, at 74. An award ceremony will be held at Lamorinda Music (81 Lamorinda Circle, Lafayette) on Thursday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m.
