MP3 of the Day: Stones Throw's Holiday Mix

Sun, Dec 10, 2006 at 4:58 PM

The holiday season is upon us, and the bulk of our time will be set aside for family, delicious meats, and yule logs. But that doesn't mean you don't have time for rare grooves and 808 kicks. Put a little "Yes, Yes Y'all" in your rosy cheeks this Christmas with Peanut Butter Wolf's hour-long Holiday Mix, brought to you by former Bay Area beat purveyors Stones Throw.

Christmastime comes and goes every year without an ounce of soul, save for a little Vince Guaraldi Trio, but now PB Wolf has provided an answer to sleep-inducing Bing Crosby tunes with an hour-long collection of Christmas jams covering the spectrum of rhythm. Roast those chestnuts on an open fire sporting your fattest gold dookie rope when you bump "Rappin Christmas," and see if the Cold Crew can prove that Santa Claus is a black man. Make spliff rockin' a new holiday tradition with Freddie McGregor's reggae skank "Irie Christmas." You can even tuck the kids in early on Christmas Eve and get between the sheets with merry tunes from Al Green and Marvin Gaye. This Christmas, don't hesitate to shake your rump. Just not the one your Aunt Shirley's rubbing peppercorns into. -- Oscar Pascual
